Description. Motor ships of the types KT and BRATYA IGNATOVY (projects 829 and R-19) are the mid-size ships-catamarans-platforms, with two hulls, two machine compartments and superstructure in the rear part. Ships are intended basically for carrying of containers, large cargoes, bulk cargoes. During operation one ship was converted for car carrying.

Modifications. Initial serial name (KT-600) means katamaran-teplokhod or 'motor ship-catamaran', 600 tons. Later the project was modified (project R-19) and got a serial name KT-1000 ('motor ship-catamaran', 1000 tons). Modified ships differ by the increased cargo-carrying capacity, length of the hull, machine power and speed. After the two ships were built, the project was changed. Outwardly later motor ships are distinguished by two funnels instead of one.

Serial building. Not less than 20 units of the type KT were built. Catamaran of the project 829 was built in 1962. Catamarans with the increased cargo-carrying capacity (project R-19) were built since 1967. Ships were assigned names or serial numbers starting from 1001; last known number is 1019.

Distribution. Ships of the type KT were delivered to Volga Shipping Company and were used in Volga basin. Later one ship was transferred to Kama Shipping Company. At present time ships of this type are laid up; probably some are written off.
