Description. Diesel-electrical ships of the type KAPITAN EVDOKIMOV (project 1191) are the powerful line icebreakers of the "river-sea" class. Ships are mainly intended for northern rivers and coastal Arctic regions. They have four shafts, two of them in the fore-part of ship.

Serial building. Since 1983 till 1986 8 icebreakers of the project 1191 were built. Ships were assigned names after outstanding soviet fleet captains.

Distribution. Icebreakers of the type "Kapitan Evdokimov" are used on Azov sea, in Finnish gulf of Baltic sea, on rivers Neva, Lena, Ob, Yenisey, on the Arctic seas. Ships belong to Lena, Yenisey, Ob-Irtysh shipping companies, sea ports of Taganrog, Dudinka, Saint Petersburg, Arkhangelsk. They are used with ship caravans in difficult ice conditions, as well as the port icebreakers. All icebreakers are in service at present time.
