| Project 785 |
Description. Diesel-electrical ships of the project 785 (type ROSSIYA, slovakian designation OL800, osobna lod 800, 'passenger ship, 800 h.p.') are the mid-size passenger ships, intended for work on passenger lines. Ships have single, double, 4-, 6- and 8-bed cabins, including those equipped with wash-bowls, two restaurants, two saloons. During operation big capacity cabins were modernized. Some ships were renovated for increase of the comfort. Also there were two lifeboats left on the ships instead of initial four.
Modifications. Ships of the project 785 were built in three series, which differ a little in size of the hull. Series III can navigate in broken ice.
Serial building. Since 1952 till 1958 36 units of the project 785 were built. Ships were assigned names after 16 republics of the USSR and outstanding russian composers.
Distribution. Ships of the project 785 are (were) operated: on Volga, Kama, Don, Yenisey, Ob, Irtysh, Dnieper. They work on various Volga tourist routes (from Perm, Samara, Kazan), on tourist and passenger lines on the siberian rivers: Omsk - Salekhard, Omsk - Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk - Dudinka. Some ships are used as hotels and recreation places. Initially most of the ships came to Volga and later, when more modern ships were built, they were delivered to other shipping companies. Ships of the project 785 belong (belonged) to Volga, Kama, Volga-Don, Ob-Irtysh, Yenisey shipping companies, Ukrainian Dnieper shipping company. 13 ships were used during liquidation of the accident at Chernobyl power station. At present time some ships are laid up, some are written off, some are sold to different tourist and other companies.
