Types "Los" and "KamGES"
Ship Types / Tankers

Description. Motor ships of the types LOS (project 587) and KAMGES (project 576T) are the big decker tankers with machine compartment and superstructure in the rear part.

Modifications. Tankers of the project 576Т (type "KamGES" or "Tanker 34") are constructively similar to the dry freighters of the project 576 (type "Shestaya Pyatiletka") and differ from them by the increased length of the hull and the higher wheel-house. Tankers of the project 587 (type "Los" or "Tanker 33") have the same hull but the higher fore-part, the other superstructure and funnel.

Serial building. Motor ships of the project 587 were built since 1958; over 30 units were built. Initially ships were assigned serial names "Tanker 33", which were later changed to the names after the rivers and lakes in the USSR. Motor ships of the project 576T were built since 1960; over 15 units were built. Initially ships were assigned serial names "Tanker 34", which were later changed to the names after the main hydro power stations of the USSR.

Distribution. Ships of the types "Los" and "KamGES" were delivered to Volgotanker and were used in Volga basin. Later many ships were transferred to Yenisey, Ob and Irtysh. At present time the most part of the ships is written off; probably some of them are working as bunker fuel replenishment bases.
