Ship Types / Passenger Ships of Distant Sail

Description. Motor ships of the project 646 (type BAYKAL or LADOGA, german designation BiFa Typ B, Binnenfahrgastschiff Typ B, 'river passenger ship, type B') are the mid-size passenger ships, intended for work on passenger lines, capable of making short sea marches. Ships have single, double, 4-, 6- and 8-bed cabins, including those equipped with wash-bowls, two restaurants, two saloons. During operation big capacity cabins were modernized.

Serial building. Since 1953 till 1956 15 units of the project 646 were built. Ships were assigned names after the lakes in the USSR and outstanding russian literators.

Distribution. Ships of the project 646 are (were) operated: on Onega and Ladoga lakes making voyages into Finnish gulf of Baltic sea and into White sea, Volga, Kama, Don, Yenisey making voyages into Yenisey gulf to Dikson, Ob and Irtysh making voyages into Ob gulf, Lena, Dnieper making voyages into Black sea to Odessa and Danube. They work on tourist route Moscow - Saint Petersburg, on tourist and passenger lines on the siberian rivers: Omsk - Salekhard, Krasnoyarsk - Dudinka, Yakutsk - Tiksi and also are used as floating hotels. Ships of the project 646 belong (belonged) to Kama, Volga-Don, North-Western, White Sea - Onega, Ob-Irtysh, Yenisey, Lena shipping companies, Ukrainian Dnieper shipping company. At present time some ships are laid up, some are written off or sold.
