Ship Types / Passenger Ships of Distant Sail

Description. Motor ships of the project 305 (type DUNAY) and the project 860 (type EROFEY KHABAROV) are the mid-size passenger ships, intended for work on passenger and tourist lines. They are one of the most successful and mass series of such class in the USSR. Ships have single, double, 4-, 6- and 8-bed cabins, including those equipped with wash-bowls, two restaurants, two saloons and a saloon with passenger seating places. During operation big capacity cabins were modernized, some ships were modernized for increase of the comfort.

Serial building. Ships of the projects 305 and 860 have similar construction. Project 305 series were built in Hungary since 1959 till 1965, project 860 series were assembled in the same period of time on different plants in the USSR. Over 50 units of both series were built. Ships of the project 305 were assigned names after the rivers in the USSR.

Distribution. Motor ships of the project 305 are (were) operated: on Volga, Kama, Belaya, Don, Oka, Moscow river, Northern Dvina, Ob, Irtysh, Lena. Ships of the project 860 were built for the eastern bassins. They are operated on Amur and on some Siberian rivers. Ships work on routes Moscow - Oka - Nizhniy Novgorod - Volga - Moscow, Moscow - Ufa, Moscow - Perm and other Volga tourist routes, routes Arkhangelsk - Kotlas, Novosibirsk - Omsk, Novosibirsk - Barnaul, Blagoveshchensk - Khabarovsk - Komsomolsk-on-Amur and many others. These ships were delivered to Volga, Kama, Belaya, Moscow, Northern, West-Siberian, Ob-Irtysh, Lena, Amur shipping companies. At present time some ships of the projects 305 and 860 are laid up, some are written off, some are sold to different tourist and other companies. Reportedly some similar ships (with lower wheel-house and funnel) exist on Danube in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
