| Type "Krasnoe Sormovo" |
Description. Motor ships of the type KRASNOE SORMOVO (projects 10, 10A) are the mid-size line tugs. It is the first mass series of diesel river tugs in the USSR.
Modifications. Later-built ships were equiped with machines of the increased power. Modified ships (project 10A) have ice strengthening of the hull.
Serial building. Since 1948 till 50-ties not less than 70 units were built.
Projects 852 and 1194. During operation the majority of ships were refitted for work as pushers according to several projects. Project 852 included installation of control nozzles instead of the simple rudders and heavy stearn anchor which was connected with the tug's winch. Barge was hold by the ropes. Project 1194 included the higher wheel-house, installation of the automated barge-holding device of the O-100 type and automated machine control equipment.
Distribution. Ships of the type "Krasnoe Sormovo" were used: in european part - in Volga basin, Moscow-Volga canal; in eastern part - on Ob, Irtysh, Yenisey. Many ships which were used in european part later were transferred to the eastern rivers. Ships belonged to Volga, Ob-Irtysh, Yenisey, Volgotanker shipping companies. At present time on central rivers ships are almost all written off. Those remaining in service are used for auxiliary work at shipbuilding plants and by waterway authorities.
