What and why. In late 80's - early 90's the USSR planned the serial
building of the several ship types, intended for work on cruise routes. First,
the projects to replace older ships built in 50's - 60's were developed, as well
as the projects of serial complex reconstruction (renovation, modernization) of
the old ships. Second, the future projects of the "river-sea" class
ships were developed, intended for wide spectrum of lines on rivers and seas.
Building of such ships had a goal of opening the new cruise routes and increasing
the navigation period during winter in the warm sea regions (when the river navigation
is closed). Due to crisis and collapse of the USSR all projects were cancelled
except several realised modernizations of the ships of the projects 26-37,
860 and 785.
However, in Russia and Ukraine the ship projects of the "river-sea"
class were worked out later in 90's, too.
Project 311. Mid-size passenger vessels, intended for cruises on rivers
with the limited depth. The project included single, double and 4-bed cabins,
equipped with personal WCs, "luxe" cabins.
Project 2163. Large passenger vessels of the "river-sea"
class, intended for cruises in sea regions and inland waterways of the United
deep water system of the USSR. The project included single, double and 4-bed
cabins, equipped with personal WCs, "luxe" cabins. The special ballasting
system was to be used for changing of the ship's draught in the river or the sea
water. The project was also designated as the type "60 let SSSR".
Project 303. Large passenger vessels of the "river-sea"
class, intended for cruises in sea regions and inland waterways of the United
deep water system of the USSR. The highly modified continuation of the
project 302 series, more seaworthy. As believed, the first keel was laid,
but the ship was not completed.
Type "Sayma". Mid-size passenger vessels of the "river-sea"
class, intended for cruises in sea regions and inland waterways. Ship's dimensions
make it possible to pass the shipping canals and locks of the limited size, such
as Saima canal.
Project 92-073. Mid-size passenger vessels of the "river-sea"
class, intended for cruises in sea regions and inland waterways. The project was
thought for work on the cruise line between Vienna (Austria) and Kiev by Ukrrechflot.
Ship's dimensions make it possible to navigate on Danube river. The project was
also designated as the type "Kiev".
